Welcome to the Trails of Western North Carolina!
I have been hiking for a number of years now. I started hiking when I was living in Virginia and hiked much of the Appalachian Trail in that state. Also, hiked quite a bit in the Potomac Highlands of West Virginia (another one of my favorite places!). But Western North Carolina has always been special for me.
Growing up as a child in Eastern North Carolina I vacationed many times with my parents in these mountains. I love being able to 'walk within the clouds' on these grand old peaks! I remember telling my folks that I would live in these hills one day. Well, it took me a number of years and some time spent in the hills of Virginia but I finally made it to WNC where I have lived on the side of Little Pisgah Mountain at 3,100 feet since 1985. Little Pisgah is located southeast of Asheville and is the highest peak (4,412') around the Hickory Nut Gorge where the famous Chimney Rock is located.
I bought an Agfa digital camera in the Summer of 2000. So now I'm taking lots of photos of my hiking trips. I'm only sharing select photos of each trail with you - because I hope you'll hike these trails and see all the wonders they offer.
This website is always being added too, so check back from time to time or click Mind-it below to get an email each time this site is updated. Also, if you have any photos from hikes in WNC and want to see them posted on this website send them to me. I plan to create a gallery of photos from my photos and the photos of other hikers. If I select the photo(s) I'll give you credit for the photo under it. Please include a description of the photo and how you would want your name to be printed.
